Lately with Nisolo Graphic Designer Meg Johnson

We chatted with our Sr. Graphic Designer Meg, to hear about her trip to Mexico and what she loves most about her work.

What have you seen lately that you've loved?
I just finished the last season of Broad City, a comedy about two best friends in their 20s taking on the shenanigans NYC has to offer, and I was a complete puddle by the end. The two leads love each other and lean on one another so well through the ups and downs the big city throws their way. It was just really heart warming to watch their friendship evolve. Anything that can make me laugh and cry wins me over any day.

What have you heard lately that you've loved?
I’ve been really into Sam Evian lately. His song, Next to You, puts me in the perfect headspace every time I hear it. Andy Shauf's project Foxwarren has been another personal favorite while I'm heads down at work. During my commute last week I really enjoyed Brene Brown’s episode on Goop: On The Roots Of Shame, Courage And Vulnerability. Shout out to my friend and co-worker, Roxi for the suggestion.

What have you read lately that you've loved?
An article in my inbox the other day, Two easy tools for lifelong creative Growth with Julia Cameron. She talks about the importance of embarking on an artist date, “An artist’s date is a once-a-week solo expedition to do something that interests or enchants you”. I love the idea of going on dates with myself and getting in some quality time to sit in my thoughts and find inspiration in small experiences. Definitely a great read your next lunch break!

What have you worn lately that you've loved?
I took a pair of our Sedona Travel Derbys on a recent trip to Tulum and they were perfect for riding bikes, cenote hopping, and long walks to and from the beach. Also, I raided my mom’s closet (anyone else?) for a retired pair of her old jeans a while back and I’ve been wearing them 3-4 times a week for the last year. Thank you for the familyhood of the traveling pants, mom.

What did you love most about your Sedonas while traveling?
Honestly, they were so comfortable there were moments when I forgot I was wearing shoes.

We’re always seeking travel inspiration. Where would you love to vacation next?
Next on my list is somewhere in Europe. A friend of mine is planning her wedding in Tuscany so I'd say Italy is calling my name. Ciao!

How did you get into design?
It was kind of a serendipitous find. I loved art in high school and I wanted to challenge myself creatively so I took a chance on Graphic Design and in turn, it brought me so much fulfillment and opened some really amazing doors for me.

What’s the hardest thing about what you do? What’s your favorite?
The hardest part for me, is allowing my mind and my ideas to push past self-imposed limitations and constraints to create something I'm proud of. The best part is problem solving and all the messy bits and pieces that come with that. I think that's where I end up growing the most personally and professionally.

Is there something you’ve made lately that you're proud of?
I just finished artwork for my husband, Louis, aka Lonas' first EP. There's something truly gratifying about collaborating on a project with the one I love.

Thanks, Meg!
